Class Level Descriptions

Being in the proper class level will greatly help your learning and experience of yoga. Select a class level which is appropriate for you using the following descriptions as a guideline.

If you are uncertain about which class you should go to, please do not hesitate to call us or speak to one of the teachers at Iyengar Yoga Honolulu.

Please note that attendance at the Intermediate classes should be with prior approval of Ray or Shelley.

Basic 1

For those completely new to yoga, this is a more gentle, slower-paced beginning class. Emphasizes a safe and appropriate approach to the practice of yoga.

Basic 2

For students with some experience in yoga. This class has a faster moving pace and is more vigorous than Basic 1. Emphasis is on providing a solid foundation in the basic standing poses and is fun and challenging.

Intermediate 1

Students should have an understanding of the basic standing poses. More complex poses are learned. Inverted postures are gently introduced. If you are interested in attending Intermediate classes please first come to Basic 2 classes. Students of Iyengar Yoga who are visiting Honolulu may attend after prior approval from Shelley or Ray .

Intermediate 2

Continued refinement of basic poses and more advanced poses are taught. Students should have a solid foundation in Iyengar yoga. Regular practice of inversions. If you are interested in attending Intermediate classes please first come to Basic 2 classes. Students of Iyengar Yoga who are visiting Honolulu may attend after prior approval from Shelley or Ray .

Seniors Stretch

Gentle stretches specifically for those over 60 years old. Bring your ID to receive the discounted rate.

Basic Stretch

A popular class designed to relieve stiffness, soreness and tension.

Kids Yoga

A fun, fast moving and vigorous challenge for children ages 5-11.

Open Practice

All students are welcome to use the props and yoga center to work on and develop a self practice. Ray and Shelley are also practicing.

Relief from Back Pain class

This class is suitable for both beginning and experienced students.The primary focus is to provide relief from back pain due to injury, muscle spasm or tightness. Iyengar Yoga will teach you many effective ways to deal with this pain.
Taught by: Ray Madigan, RN. Ray has over 25 years of Nursing experience and is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Senior III level.
To attend, please arrive at least 15 minutes before the class starts to meet with Ray.
When: Every Saturday, 8-9 am. Starts May 25

Heal and Restore class

The purpose of this class is to promote physical, psychological, and emotional harmony and healing. Beginning and experienced students are welcome to join.You will learn many effective ways to deal with stress, fatigue, and recovery through this tailored practice of Iyengar Yoga.
Class starts Saturday, May 25, 3-4 pm.
Cost: $15/class
Taught by: Ray Madigan and Shelley Choy. Ray is a Registered Nurse with over 25 years of Nursing experience and is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Senior III level.Shelley Choy is co-director of Iyengar Yoga Honolulu and is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Senior I level.To register for the class, please contact Ray
